From Salinas: Taxi approximately $8–12; or bus to La Libertad first, then continue.

From Montañita and points north: buses heading south toward La Libertad pass through Santa Elena and stop at the terminal.

  • Waiting area with seating
  • Ticket windows for major operators
  • Small food vendors and kiosks
  • Taxis available outside
  • Limited parking

Operators

Major bus operators departing from Terminal Sumpa include CLP (Cooperativa de Transportes), Libertad Peninsular, and several inter-provincial lines. Ticket windows line the terminal hall. It is always possible to buy tickets on arrival; booking ahead is recommended for overnight journeys and during feriados (national holidays).

Tips

  • Arrive early for long-distance journeys, especially on Fridays and holiday weekends when buses fill quickly
  • Bring cash — ticket windows prefer cash; some now accept card
  • Check departure time on your ticket — some buses leave ahead of schedule if full
  • The terminal is generally safe during operating hours but take normal precautions with luggage
