Sandboarding (La Peninsula)
Appearance
Sandboarding La Península
Sand dunes near Chanduy — informal, no operators, ask locally for current accessible spots as dune locations shift seasonally.
Overview
Sandboarding on the Santa Elena Peninsula is informal and not commercially developed. The primary area is the dune system near Chanduy — a fishing village south of the main peninsula urban zone.
The dunes near Chanduy form along the coastal strip south of the main conurbation. They are accessible but shift seasonally, so it's worth asking locally (in Chanduy or at the beach) for the best current access point.
Bring your own board — there are no rental operators. A regular snowboard works, as does a purpose-built sandboard with wax. Traditional techniques (sitting on a board, prone position) work on small dunes.
Getting There
- Taxi from La Libertad to Chanduy (approximately $8–12)
- Or bus from Santa Elena or La Libertad toward Chanduy and Playas direction
- Ask in Chanduy village for the current dune access
Notes
- Dune height on the peninsula is modest compared to major sandboarding destinations like Huacachina (Peru) — this is a local activity, not a major destination
- Go in the dry season (Jun–Nov) when wind has built up the sand deposits
