Chipipe is a neighborhood and beach in the western part of Salinas, known for its calmer waters compared to the main Salinas beach (Playa de Salinas). It is a popular area for expats and upper-middle-class Ecuadorian families, with a quieter, more residential atmosphere.

The Beach

Playa de Chipipe is protected by the curve of the Salinas bay and typically has calmer, shallower water than the exposed sections of the Salinas beachfront. The sand is fine and the beach is generally clean. Beach volleyball nets are a permanent fixture here.

The beach fills on weekends and during peak season (January–February, Holy Week) but is relatively empty during the week.

The Neighborhood

Chipipe is a residential neighborhood with a mix of:

  • Apartment buildings (many with sea views)
  • Small hotels and cabañas catering to Ecuadorian tourists
  • Restaurants and seafood spots along the waterfront
  • Small stores, ice cream parlors, and service businesses

The area is popular with expats, particularly North Americans and Europeans who find the area quieter and more comfortable than central Salinas.

The Chipipe Malecón

A short malecón (promenade) runs along the Chipipe beachfront, suitable for evening walks and people-watching. It connects to the main Malecón de Salinas further east.
