La Rinconada is an area of dramatic coastal cliffs near Salinas, featuring the brilliant white and cream-colored sedimentary formations that are characteristic of the Santa Elena Peninsula's clifftop coastline. The cliffs offer spectacular views over the Pacific Ocean.

The Cliffs

The cliffs at La Rinconada are formed from soft sedimentary rock — a mix of chalk, limestone, and marine sediment laid down over millions of years. The white and cream colors contrast vividly with the deep blue Pacific, making this one of the Peninsula's most photogenic coastal landscapes.

The clifftops are also known as White Cliffs (see White Cliffs) in some references, and the formation continues along various sections of the Peninsula's southern coastline.

Activities

Photography — The cliffs are a popular photography location, particularly at sunset when the warm light enhances the white rock colors.

Walking — Informal paths along the clifftop allow for scenic coastal walking with views over the beach and ocean below.

Paragliding — The consistent southerly winds and cliff height make La Rinconada and similar cliff formations along the Peninsula potential paragliding launch sites. Check with local operators.

Getting There

La Rinconada is west of Salinas, accessible by road past the naval base area toward La Chocolatera and REMACOPSE. The area is a short drive or taxi ride from Salinas.
