Camping La Península
Punta Blanca's 3.7 km of near-empty white-cliff beach is the peninsula's main informal camping site — no facilities, full stars, and almost nobody else.

Overview

Camping on the Santa Elena Peninsula is informal — there are no designated campgrounds or official camping facilities. The main location used for beach camping is Punta Blanca, which is sufficiently remote and uncrowded to make beach camping realistic.

Important: Camping in urban beach areas (Salinas, Chipipe, Ballenita) is not practical or advisable — beaches are public but unattended camping in urban areas carries safety risks and is generally not welcomed by local authorities.

Punta Blanca

Punta Blanca is approximately 30 km north of Salinas. The beach is backed by white cliffs and is accessible by road. Camping here is informal — pitch on the beach, no facilities, no fee, no oversight.

  • Water: Bring all water you need; none available on site
  • Shade: Limited; the cliffs provide some relief in the afternoon
  • Security: Generally low-risk but unattended camping in any isolated location carries inherent risk — go in a group and keep valuables secure
  • Fire: Beach fires are possible but be responsible; no designated fire areas

Getting There

Taxi from La Libertad approximately $10–15. Return taxis can be arranged by phone. Bus service exists but is infrequent.
