Chulluype (also written Chuyuipe) is a small coastal community of Santa Elena canton, on the coast between La Libertad and Ballenita. It is a quiet, working-class fishing and residential area with little tourist infrastructure — a look at everyday peninsula life away from the resorts.
The beach
Chulluype's beach is short — about 0.4 km by the canton's count — and used mostly by local fishermen. The Río Chuyuipe reaches the sea here, with two small estuaries.
Community Character
The community is primarily Ecuadorian families — both long-established local fishing families and newer residents from the region. There are small tiendas (corner stores), a school, and local services.
Getting there
A bus line runs between Salinas and Chuyuipe, passing through La Libertad. Chulluype is also a short taxi ride from La Libertad or Ballenita.
