Getting home internet installed on the peninsula is straightforward in Salinas, La Libertad and Santa Elena city, and harder in small towns and comunas. This page covers '''how''' to sign up. For '''who''' to sign up with — Netlife, Xtrim, Celerity, Starlink, the smaller local fibre companies, Intercable on the Ruta del Spondylus, and why CNT is the last resort — see '''[[Internet Service Providers]]'''.

📶 Getting Internet Installed
How to get home internet installed, step by step — and what to ask before you sign.

Getting home internet installed on the peninsula is straightforward in Salinas, La Libertad and Santa Elena city, and harder in small towns and comunas. This page covers how to sign up. For who to sign up with — Netlife, Xtrim, Celerity, Starlink, the smaller local fibre companies, Intercable on the Ruta del Spondylus, and why CNT is the last resort — see Internet Service Providers.

What you need

  • Your cédula (some providers accept a passport)
  • Proof of address — a utility bill or your rental contract
  • The first payment; some providers charge for installation or the router, though many waive it in promotions
Did you know…?
☀️ …the peninsula is only about 2° south of the equator, so the midday sun is strong all year?

The process

  1. Check coverage at your exact address on the provider's website or by WhatsApp — and ask your neighbours what they use.
  2. Choose a plan. Ask how long the promotional price lasts and what you will pay after it.
  3. Book the installation. In the towns it usually takes a few working days; in rural areas, longer.
  4. The installer runs the fibre to your home and sets up the router.
  5. Test the speed before the installer leaves, and again at night when everyone is online.

Tips

  • Ask for fibre. Avoid old copper (ADSL) lines.
  • Read the contract. Some plans have a minimum term with a penalty for leaving early — Starlink's cheap kit offers, for example, need 12 months.
  • Get a UPS for the router so a short power cut doesn't drop your connection. See Power Cuts Ecuador.
  • No fibre at your address? Use Starlink, or mobile data from Claro or Tigo while you wait — see Mobile Data Ecuador.
