🏖️ San Pablo
A 3.2 km beach where the Ruta del Spondylus really begins — 16 km from Santa Elena.
San Pablo is a coastal comuna of Santa Elena parish, 16 km from Santa Elena city and 28 km from Salinas. It is the first big beach town on the Ruta del Spondylus after Punta Blanca.
| At a glance | |
|---|---|
| Parish | Santa Elena (urban parish), Santa Elena canton |
| Beach | About 3.2 km — one of the longest in the canton |
| Water | About 70% on Aguapen's piped network (2023) |
| Bus | Tralisansa and Rutas Peninsulares from Terminal Sumpa (window 9), or any Ruta del Spondylus bus |
The beach and the estuary
San Pablo's long, open beach has an estuary at one end. The big Ecuasal saltworks at Pacoa are close by.
Crossroads
A new bypass starts near San Pablo and runs past Cerro Alto and Baños de San Vicente to the E-40, so traffic from Guayaquil to the north coast no longer has to go through Santa Elena city.
