<p><b>New page</b></p><div>The '''Santuario de Nuestra Señora de la Esperanza''' is the main church of [[La Libertad]], on the highest point of downtown. The Franciscans founded the parish in 1942.<br />

Its image of the Virgin is an 18th-century carving attributed to the Quito school (the plan names "Bernardo de Legonda", probably the sculptor Bernardo de Legarda). It was recovered from the rubble of the old church on 11 December 1966.<br />
