'''Playa Rosada''' (Pink Beach) is a small beach located on the northern end of the Ruta del Spondylus corridor, in the Puerto López area of Manabí Province. Its name comes from the distinctive pinkish tint of the sand, caused by the accumulation of crushed seashells and pink-tinted shell fragments mixed with the natural gray-brown volcanic sand.

== The Pink Sand ==

The pink colouration is subtle rather than dramatic — in certain light conditions, particularly in the early morning and late afternoon, the beach takes on a distinctly warm rose-tinted appearance. At midday in flat light the effect is less visible. The shell fragments responsible are predominantly small bivalves and gastropods from the local reef and rocky habitat.

== Setting ==

Playa Rosada is a relatively small, calm beach. Its location near Puerto López places it within Ecuador's most active whale watching zone — the Parque Nacional Machalilla marine zone offshore is one of the primary humpback whale habitats on Ecuador's coast from June to September.

== Visiting ==

The beach is accessible from the E-15 in the Puerto López area. Puerto López is approximately 3–4 hours north of La Libertad by bus. From Ayampe, it is approximately 20 minutes north.

As the beach is in Manabí Province rather than Santa Elena Province, it is technically at the northern edge of the Ruta del Spondylus corridor. Puerto López has good accommodation options for overnight stays.

== Whale Watching ==

Puerto López is the main hub for whale watching operations in this part of the coast. The Machalilla National Park marine zone offshore is where humpback whales concentrate from June to September. Boat tours depart from Puerto López harbor — this is one of the best places in Ecuador for close encounters.
