== Overview ==

The Río Manglaralto estuary at [[Manglaralto]] contains one of the last stands of old-growth mangrove on the Santa Elena stretch of coast — a dense, canopied waterway navigable at high tide by small boat or kayak. The experience is genuinely wild by coastal Ecuadorian standards: narrow channels threading between root systems, birds calling from the canopy, and the complete absence of other tourists.

Mangrove boating here is an informal activity. There are no organised tour operators at the estuary. Access is by small fishing boat with a local guide arranged in the village, or by kayak if you bring or rent one from [[Montañita]].

== What to Expect ==

At high tide, the estuary channels are navigable for approximately 1–2 km inland. The water is calm and tannin-brown under the canopy. The banks are dense mangrove root systems — habitat for crabs, small fish, and birds. At low tide the upper estuary empties completely; timing your visit around the high tide is essential.
