== Overview ==

Kayaking on the Ruta del Spondylus has two distinct settings with very different characters. The first is the [[Manglaralto]] river estuary — a navigable mangrove waterway best at high tide, where the bird life is exceptional and the channels narrow into tunnels of root and vegetation. The second is [[Ayangue]]'s horseshoe bay — open calm water in a sheltered cove, ideal for recreational paddling and exploration of the rocky headlands.

Both environments are accessible to paddlers of any experience level. Neither involves open Pacific conditions: the estuary is sheltered, and the bay is protected from swell year-round.
